Setting Up The Tea Lab — Interactive Tea Evaluation

Let’s analyze a tea together!

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to effectively evaluate teas from anywhere in the world,

using a simple setup you can easily make at home.

You’ll practice looking for the signs of excellent vs. average vs. mediocre teas,

and also learn how your pouring style, water quality,

and other seemingly tiny variables can factor into your evaluation.

*This is a live, interactive study.

Please come prepared with two teas you’d like to compare,

two identical bowls (soup bowls and rice bowls are awesome!) and soup spoons.

We’ll walk through this setup,

which is often used by Taiwanese tea producers to evaluate teas, during the workshop.

Rie Tulali

Rie Tulali is the founder of Tea Curious, where she shares tools and techniques to help serious tea drinkers advance their tea study. She’s hosted over 100 tea workshops over the years, combining both technical tea knowledge and a warm, playful community spirit. As an introverted Filipino-American immigrant, Rie found her voice through tea and also met her partner, Steven, while hosting a tea workshop. Outside of tea, they’re usually trying to perfect a favorite new recipe (Delhi style korma is the latest obsession) or trying to meet new dog friends at the park.
